" Immigrants in our own land" - Jimmy Santiago

After reading the poem, my impression is good about the poem. I understood that the author is describing his experience at prison, how new prisoners get in and they do not know anything about the environment at prison. Besides talking about prison and creating a bad feeling about the authors experience, the poem has a positive side. Evidence for this is found in the quote: "This is suffering, pain, anguish, and loneliness, but also strength, hope, faith, love, it gives a man those secret properties of the Spirit , that make a man a man".

ON SELF RELIANCE - Essay

The tile of this text represents the idea of be self-reliance, which means to live our own life the way we want and do not try to be someone we are not. Emerson's thesis on this essay was that a lack of self-reliance is a lack of critical thinking.          The tone of the essay is reflexive. Evidence for this is found in the fact that; the author is trying to tell the reader the benefits of being independent in life.  For example, the quote " Imitation is suicide" means that when we are trying to be or act as someone else, we are losing originality and losing our identity. The author is also trying to tell the reader why people should not pretend to be someone they are not.       The diction of the essay is formal. Evidence for this is found in the fact that Emerson is telling the reader how to be self-reliance in a formal way. He is using formal language. Likewise, t he syntax of the text is complex. The...

"Sound of Thunder"-response

At the end of the story they return to the present, Eckles finds out that the spelling on the sign has changed and a different person has been elected president. Since this man is supposed to be a tyrant, we get the idea that Eckels has messed up the future. Eckels is shot more in revenge than punishment, because there is nothing that can be done. I learned that small changes can have a great impact in the future.

A Vignette in time - First day of High school

I still can remember most of the activities I did on the first day of my freshman year. A day after I went to orientation, I did not have many friends, so I was a little bit nervous about starting high school. But the first day was fun, I actually thought it was going to be boring, but I had fun meeting new people and hanging out with friends in school. I remember I got lost because I couldn't find room 634, so I went to the office and ask for a campus map so I wouldn't get lost again. I was so embarrassed for asking for the campus map, but I never thought about asking a teacher or a security officer for help. However, I really enjoyed my first day of high school.

Literature Analysis (Fiction) - Divergent, by Veronica Roth

1. plot of the novel. In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late. 2. I would say that the theme of the novel is Identity, because the main character "Tris" has to figure out who he is and why are divergent people so dangerous. 3. Based on the authors tone, I would describe his life as: reflexive. I would say the author is that kind of person who has to know the purpose of something before doing it, in other words, the author won't do anything if there's not a purpose. In my opinion the tone of the novel is mysterious because as I've been reading the book I've been noticing some interesting and mysterious facts about each character. 4. Literary Techniques:  Setting and context: Dystopian Chicago, many years in the future. Narrator: Divergent is nar...
